>start reading blood meridian
>introduction by Harold bloom
>The cunt proceeds to fucking spoil the entire novel in the second paragraph

This is not the first time that an introduction spoiled shit. Why the fuck do they do this? Alternatively, what's the point of reading introductions when all they do is fuck up the book for you?

>> No.14621267

Never read introductions if they're not written by the author themselves.

That's all part of the experience, but knowing what happens to the characters and when takes away a lot from the book, at least for me. It takes away the mystery and makes it harder to empathize with the characters.

I usually read the introduction last. Sometimes the author of the introduction reveals the best parts, so you can skip to them if the book is too boring.

Don't blame the person writing the introduction either, they probably got in based on how relevant their name is, albeit, most academic publishers(Oxford;" Hackett, etc, other universities) have good introductions that give a lot of good insight into the book your about to read. I can't imagine that spoiling the plot in BM would do anything, their is not really a plot as much it is a journey.

I was once like you kids, but then I grew out of it and understood that the plot is just as important as all other parts and that there was no point on being snob about it. Just because normies idolize the immaculation of the plot does not imply that a smart person should negate it.
still love giving out spoilers of shitty pop stuff, tho.

I fucking hate Harold Bloom. Everything he says, even about good books, is completely fucking wrong.

He says Blood Meridian isn't political or sociological when it's very obviously both. He doesn't understand the themes or characters, has a tenuous (at best) grasp of the Biblical nature of the work, and can only come out on the other side with a superficial comparison to Moby Dick. What a fucking clown.
