Has this board actually gotten worse?

I’ve been on it about 7 years now. In the past year or two I’ve started browsing a lot less because it became extremely shitty at some point. I now check in this place maybe a few times a month and always leave after a few minutes of seeing the terrible threads people make. Another new trend seems to be effort-posting being responded to with really sophomoric posts like, “lol cope incel”. Also the /pol/tard invasion, where you can’t talk about Jewish authors without a subhuman /pol/-tard bringing up that they’re Jewish, for example.

Some are also saying that effort-posting gets outright deleted by mods sometimes while retarded threads stay up, which I think I’ve noticed too.

The entire internet is dissolving into shit because of the zoomer invasion. It won't get better for a while. Another 15 years will need to pass before the average age of net users goes back up into the 30s. They are truly shit though, wow. It's never been this stupid and it's everywhere

I genuinely can't figure out anymore whether people are saying "based" ironically or unironically to some posts.

Obviously some "BASED AND REDPILLED" replies are tongue in cheek. Sometimes they even mean "unironically I approve of this but I am also aware it's conventionally mocked." Those are the more obvious cases. But generally speaking, when you post "based" in reply to something, what are you actually trying to convey?

The average age of the board has gone down. It is impossible to have a thread without probably 30% literal underagers. I remember a thread where some guy was bitching about his liberal marxist syllabus and it turned out he went to community college. He is just one of many unqualified, illiterate posters. It's a fucking joke, the standards of posting are nonexistent. I miss the days when posters could be bullied out of a thread for not having read enough books.

Swear there are people who exist just to post the exact same thread at the exact same time every single day.

notice how every OP is now
>Cope or cringe? Prove me wrong. Discuss. Go.
because they're 4tweeting in between classes or while they're on the bus, their minds are permanently fucked by this shit. remember, it's now ABNORMAL to have a desktop computer.

It is the hallmark sign of a new, transient class of 4channer. Whereas many users of 4chan only come here for their particular interest—literature, anime, fitness, video games—with the chan-culture twist, the particular interest of this new class is 4chan itself. While the particular board users will cross-board along the lines of the natural comorbidity of interests, say: /lit/–/his/, /fa/–/soc/, /co/–/tv/, etc. they will generally stay within the peripheries of their experience. This is not the case with this new class; they could be considered professional cross-boarders, as, having no particular interest but 4chan itself, they are not at home or confined by any board or subject, and as such drift across all boards like a meme-miasma, spreading sickness and low-quality posting. As such they do not develop a board culture, but a cross-board culture. This causes them to develop a universal language, which this invariably means a compound super-structure of "memes." This universal language circumvents one of the core issues that this new class faces—having no interest in any particular board, they cannot properly engage with the content of any board. To amend this problem, they will engage their universal language of shitposting, making a superficial thread which is merely a slightly adjusted template version of the same meme. They are searching for the posts which play to the stereotype of 4chan that they hold: NEET/incel-posting, sick burns, ironic posting, etc. They will then engage with these by posting their universal language or "based and redpilled" or "cringe and bluepilled" or "yikes" or whatever is currently in fashion. These replies are essentially meaningless, but stoke a feeling of engagement within this new class, and help mark out the ebin posts for their compatriots. This new class is constantly growing and can be felt on every corner of 4chan, are especially prevalent in boards like /pol/, /r9k/ and /tv/, and replace any actual discussion of the topic at hand with twitter bait threads, dumb youtube videos, meme threads, e-celebs, "ironic" dumb-posting, incel posting—basically topics which anyone can engage with no investment and are part of the mosaic identity of this new class (Peterson, Feminism, soijack, NPC, cringe, etc., topics which pertain to no board in particular). They are also the most likely to use frogs, wojacks, and other highly repeatable images. Due to the political-economy of posting they will always be able to outpace, outpost, and overrun any but the largest boards.

Amazing post, basically the same thing I’ve been realizing but found hard to put in words just because of how pervasive in it.

In a way, I’m even a little sad. I used to find /lit/ intellectually stimulating. Now it’s just pathetic and sad. Guess it’s really time to move on.

If the warosu archive can stay up and running, isn't it feasible to create a new site with just one or two boards?

What would the cost be to host a site like that?

Why don't they ban posting wojaks and frogs on this board. It wouldn't save the board but it'd definitely help. Actually scratch that we all know it's a lack of rule enforcing that's lead this board to the state it's in today.

Both. Young idiots have always existed, but they could only spread their message through limited forms of communication, like TV, Newspapers and basic letters. The early internet was restricted by the difficulties of accessing it, but now everyone and their grandma is online. It's all they know now. There's an entire generation that didn't know anything that didn't come out of their phone. Pic related.

also this. and there has always been cross board culture or language. you can tell someone is a new-ishfag if they think otherwise as the site was very cohesive in early years—with most of the site wide lingo being anime based. anime has just been replaced with the more topic neutral images and phrases.

The problem is, people here don't actually want effort posts. They get no (you)'s and are bumped off the board by some twitter screenshot bait thread that gets hundreds of replies. The sad reality is, it is the userbase of /lit/ that is the problem with /lit/.

Yes this has happened to me several times. Nujannies are trying to preserve what they view as "board culture" when they are all edgy kids from reddit or election tourists. Basically everyone that has been here before 2010 is getting phased out.

Is it really a sign of decline or 'growing beyond the board' (or a combination of both). I've been here for 7-8 years to and i feel like the content hasn't ultimately changed much, just my reaction to it. Like common book recommendation threads were interesting once upon a time because i hadn't heard of the books before, but now it's just an exercise in stale recommendations about books i've known about for years now and just seems like repetitive content that isn't helpful to me. Just like certain memes or shitposting being funny, but now have been repeated for so long that they do nothing.
