It's pretty decent. The middle books really fucking drag though and some of the female characters(Elayne) are intolerable. They're so bad that they make the male characters bad by proxy for putting up with their bullshit.

I started reading it, enjoyed the prologue and then stopped a few paragraphs into the main story when I felt it was the mind numbingly boring 'this has happened before and this is the special hero and there's the special villain and there's the end of the world' shit

Books 1-3 are legitimately high tier fantasy

Books 4-6 have some moments of brilliance interspersed with long stretches of shit

Books 7-11 are unreadable

Have some paitience and read everything. You will be greatful for it. Only impatient faggots with short attention spans can't enjoy the book, therefore they cannot grasp what the book is about. Notice how many posters in this thread which haven't gone all the way.
At first it might seem to be stock high fantasy, but that's only to refamiliarize you with what you take for granted in such stories. One of my favorite things that I love about this book is the human attitude towards the standard dark lord the impending. It actually dives in at what rulers and regular individual wil l actually be concerned with in such a situation. Also pay attention to how the MC is changed by his role as the prophesized; the book tamed a look at the MCs action and attitude and ask what it truly means to be a savior/hero. I also love how it deals with prophecy as they are not declarations that will inevitably be fulfilled. Have some patience and I promise you are going to enjoy it.
