I think this is a great idea.
Can we add guides or links to guides about converting file formats (i.e. how to convert pdf. to mobi. in calibre in a more comprehensive way than the calibre manual describes)?

I use library.nu for ebooks, it's gigapedia but it's moved it site. I don't know if 4chan will do the ebooks thing, since the U.S. has actually been cracking down on it, e.g. limewire. However we can sticky where public domain books are...guttenburgh project and librivox.org.

Also, while everyone else may bitch you out Brownbear, thanks for the work.

Maybe we should add like 100 best books by Time, BBC and all that jazz because those are really recommendation threads. Also can we put in a Children's (todler) book recommendation. I would add Dr. Suess in general, Where the wild things are,

A sticky should have links to suggested reading, Time Top 100, Guardian Must Read lists, things like that. Links to popular and educational blogs would be useful, as well as links to university lectures, TED, that sort of thing. It could be very good.

I think this eReader should be mentioned. It's an ectaco jetbook. It's essentially a jailbroken kindle, it has no regard for DRM and it functions as a USB mass-storage device with an operating system, as opposed to the Kindle which has a whole program and store and a controlled way of interracting with your computer. Basically you can do whatever the fuck you want with this thing. It's great.

Also e-ink is ghey and the non-backlight LCD screen is totally fine for reading off of, plus it has sweet PDF support.

So a grand total of 4, and totally not worth a sticky. Over 16 hours thats 1 every 4 hours. So if you have a problem with the number of these threads you see, you must be here way too damn much.

I'm looking at the wiki and I've got a few problems with it. Why are the lists all in image form? As someone with a shitty internet connection, I don't really care for waiting for the image to load, although it's certainly bearable. My biggest concern with the wiki is that it just throws books at your face without so much as a clue to what they're about. That's fine if you're willing to take the contributor's advice without caring what the book is about, but I think it would be much more helpful to add a description. Or rather to transform the entire thing into something like /v/'s wiki.

A random Anon SHOULD NOT make the sticky. Look at the sticky on /fa/ which was made by a thoughtful mod. It takes up no space on the page, yet it opens out to a vast amount of information that is very pleasing to look at. For some links, instead of describing it and then posting the link, the link IS the description. Everything looks clean and professional. We need a kind mod to spend half an hour or so here to sort us out. An anon can't do it.

Not many people have bothered to contribute to this at all. There's a thread now about what childrens' lit should go on the wiki, but I really don't see why when 4chan is 18+. It's a sincere effort though so...

We have a lot of info here in this thread. The Time reading lists and Guardian lists etc should be assimilated into the /lit/ wiki. We could do with new threads for blogs, online literary journals, online lectures and other resources. If after we've had a couple of threads on each topic there really shouldn't be any room for criticism as everyone should have had a chance to contribute.

All this info should then be sent to the mods so they can do us a quality sticky.

Seriously, it won't help. People coming here to ask about books want to engage with people and have discussions. They want to know why certain books are recommended. If they just wanted a list of books they could type "good books" into a search engine.

Maybe we can talk about certain topics and bring books that we've read to the table, or have a proper in depth discussion of a single book or author or philosophy. The threads you say you'll miss are boring and repetitive.

If you want real threads, start real threads. Contribute to the good threads started by others. If you have to, samefag your thread will informed comments arguing both sides of an issue. This board is slow and to get people involved in a thread that have read the one particular book you want to discuss will be difficult. You'll have to keep bumping with interesting discussion so the one guy who's read the book can see the thread and contribute by refuting or agreeing with one of your points.

Telling aspiring readers "fuck off, pick something from this overwhelming list of books with no descriptions" won't help at all.
