i prefer the oppressive yet brutally honest commie block aesthetic to the plastic and saccharine post-modern corpo cube, frankly

Neither. I am happy in my non-american suburb, with local shops and stores. Not a single soulless multinational building or a boring commie block.

Aesthetics represent values. How can two values be different and result in the same aesthetic? The ideologies are not nearly as opposed as they seem.

And I re-iterate, it is largely a false dichotomy. The biggest differences between left and right are the seasons, the upkeep, and the photo editing.

For one thing, you're trying to compare systems of governance, but the architects of each set of buildings trace almost the exact same philosophical origins. The Bauhaus school was in close communication with Vkhutemas. They all follow roughly the same set of philosophers. You want to make a distinction between the individualized and the socialized implementation of materialism. But the error of the idea that leads to this aesthetic collapse is neither in the individualization nor the socialization, but in the materialism. It's a false dichotomy. The right is more brutal but gives the advantage of making clear the lie. The left is easier to live in, but only because it is better about hiding the lie.
