>Literally every philosophy is just a desperate attempt to find happiness
>Even denying you want happiness is a secret wish that it will then come to you
Nobody can truly deny that they want happiness, not a single person. All of us are chasing the same thing, just taking different paths to get there. How does that make you feel? It makes me love all of you. It makes me feel less alone.

What do you mean by "happiness"?

What does /lit/ think of David Pearce? Will technology eventually allow us to abolish suffering?

The things we feel that are perceived as good. You need to stop categorizing beyond that basic level though. To differentiate between pleasure, joy, fulfillment, etc, is a meaningless task because they all are paths people take to try and get to the same end point, which is just "happiness". Not one person truly goes the other way, everyone is striving for the same thing.

How would one know what "good" is without also having experienced "bad"?

>> No.14554500

I can think up right now a philosophical system that wants to minimize happiness.

But you would be doing it to bring forth...? Happiness in some form. Positive experience.

This is the entire basis of philosophy, though. You need to put down the roach.

Happiness is the elimination of desire. By chasing happiness I am constantly creating new desires and thereby increasing the net suffering in the world. It's immoral to chase happiness.

No, it the approach for extracting value from an existence defined by unending suffering. Suffering is universal. Happiness is a fever-dream in a world full of death and terror. How one suffers determines the level of value one has.

Happiness is the good beyond being. The good, as subjects, are oriented toward a being beyond themselves. Whereas the happy are beyond even themselves.
