>mfw there's any use of cursing in books.
Cursing belongs in movies and video games not books. If you curse in a book it should automatically decrease the quality of a book, like how turning in a paper a day late automatically gets your grade down.

Individuality belongs in facebook and /soc/ not /lit/. If you tripfag in a 4chan it should automatically decrease the quality of the post, like how turning in a paper a day late automatically gets your grade down.

James Kelman won the Man Booker Prize for this and he used the word "fuck" up to a dozen times on every page:

"Fucking hell man what a fucking song to pick! Stupit bullshit pish--showing how traumatic a time a guy's having whose missis has just walked out and left him--obviously the cunt's never done a hand's turn in his life but it never dawns on him that might have something to do with it. Mind you it never seems to dawn on the cunt that wrote the song either. It was Helen drew his attention to that, how ye could tell from the way the auld George Jones boy sang the words that he wasnay being funny nor fuck all, nay irony intended."

This is a personal feeling of mine about literature in general and I thought I'd share it.

No. Aiming for realism in the modern world, a book almost requires at least a small amount of profanity. How many people do you know that don't swear?

>Aiming for realism in the modern world

This is so stupid. "Realism in the modern world" nowadays would be writing about using facebook and listening to podcasts on your latest apple gadgets. We don't write about that though, because it's fucking lame.

Realism in the modern world"

I was referring to personal interaction. Y'know, like actually getting out of the house. Holy damn... there are people that still do that? Must come as a shock to the likes of you.

"HUH? WHAT DID YOU SAY? HUH? DO YOU HAVE ANY REMARKS ON ME AS A CUSTOMER? GOD DAMN FUCKING CUNTHOLE, I'M FUCKING GOING TO TEACH YOU A THING OR TWO ABOUT CURSING, YOU FUCKING COCKHEAD! YOU CAN HAVE MY "EMOTIONAL PRESSURE" SO FAR UP YOUR ASSHOLE THAT YOU WON'T FUCKING FIND IT AGAIN, EVEN IF YOU HIRE FIVE HUNDRED SOUTH-AFRICAN COAL-MINER-NIGGER-FAGGOTS TO DRILL THEIR WAY INWARDS!" I've always felt the same way about the presence of inferior races in books. It's not like white people haven't done enough that you've run out of things to write about them. :\

>Books are somehow a more elevated form of art, higher in some way than video games and movies.

Don't be a pretentious shithead, and just admit you`re a prude, and that`s that. Books should be written however the fuck the writer wants. Swears or not.

Steven Spielberg once said, "I will accept video games as a story-telling medium when someone can honestly say, 'I cried at level 17.'"

Personally, I can honestly say that I cried at the end of Metal Gear Solid 3. The Prince of Persia games are also a contender. I personally consider video games to be an art form on the same level as literature. Of course, with both, you have shit-tier works and god-tier works.

I've played MGS4 over 8 times and every time I've cried at least once, though these occurrences may have been at different scenes.
