Hello lit. So I'm going through the lit starter pack and i went to my library and got do androids dream of electric sheep? And it came in a book with The Man in the High Castle, The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch and Ubik should i read those stories too or just ignore them?

All the DICK fans I know are that weird sort of reader who likes to get lost in an author for several months, always coming back two days after your last meeting and saying they read 1.5 more books by him, even the weirder or more obscure ones that most people don't read

I haven't read Androids desu, but Three Stigmata and A Scanner Darkly were really great. Ubik was a close third.. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few but I had a feeling High Castle and Androids wouldn't have the same insane magic of those first three I mentioned

Three Stigmata is the best Dick book I’ve read so far. Ubik was also great.

Nah, the ones people have been mentioning are definitely worth reading. There’s bound to be *one* for someone to like. Some of them were noticingly written in a rush cuz they’re kinda sloppy, but his best stuff merits reading him.

Those are his best, probably. Certainly among his best. I'm amazed that DADOES isn't more highly regarded than it is.

The only thing I would say is that Man in the High Castle is different from the rest, and people who like the rest might not like it, and vice versa. But I like them all.

A Scanner Darkly is very good and one of his best
Martian Time Slip is very good and very underrated and one of his best
Palmer Eldritch is very good
High Castle is alright
DADOES is alright
Ubik has a very weak narrative and is very overrated. not worth it imo

So, I’ve read almost all of PKD and if I had to rank the most relevant ones it would go like this:
>Three stigmata> The divine invasion>Scanner Darkly> Valis> Do Androids dream of electric sheep> Galactic Pot-Healer> Ubik> The transmigration of timothy archer> Man in high castle

And his short stories are really worth it. Beyond lies the wub is one I really like
