I have recently read Mainländer (in German) and I can tell you that he's terrible actually. His thinking is just not good, flawed in too many ways, in the end he's literally wrong about everything. He saw himself as a succesor of Kant and Schopenhauer but did not understand either (it seems to me).
Yes, his idea of God as unity dying and thery creating the universe as multiplicity is kind of cool but it's just a few sentences inbetween the technical stuff where he gets that poetic. So my advise: Don't fall for the meme and forget about Mainländer, there's a reason he's obscure und irrelevant.
