i'm not sure what i'm looking for and i'm not sure where to start. i want somewhat of a self help book but don't want the cringe shit that comes along with it. i want to learn and learn more about myself and the human brain at the same time.

i don't read often but i want to and i want it to benefit me. recommend me something you think i might be searching for.

i have no desire or interest to pray or have god "guide my soul" but i wouldn't mind reading the bible. is there any mental benefits i could gain from it, ie learning to handle things myself rather than putting faith into god?

There is one book for your problem (I've found myself in a similar position). It is not a book about self-help or life even, just a challenging book written by a true genius. Reading it will be enjoyable, and no doubt make you a smarter person. Trust me. Grab the Gormenghast series by Mervyn Peake. It is a stretch of the mind and a glimpse at true genius. People used to write their dissertations on Peake, but he's been hidden by popular media for some reason. Enjoy and don't give up. I promise it's beyond worth it
