how can humans be evil if we are determined by nature?

He doesn't believe that.

Even if he believed that, one doesn't invalidate the other, it just means humans are predetermined scourges of the earth.

Mosquitoes might be considered a scourge without being "evil" i.e. moral agents capable of freely choosing to do harm.

quite some loaded language for someone saying we don't have free will... why the bitterness if thats truly what he believes?

he sounds like a pessimistic humanist

his entire philosophy is a critique of humanism. he is a pessimist nihilist but pretends to be into gaia and garbage like that to seem like he isn't

Free will, we deviate from the natural good.

Have you just read Strawdogs? From reading Gray I come to the conclusion that he thinks the dark side of human nature, in other words evil, is underrated. He thinks ethics do not evolve so our capacity for evil doesn't change. He seems to think that destruction of nature is also innate.

Though he does consider himself a green conservatist, at least did so in one of his books. He liked the Wire and Breaking Bad, probably for its moral ambiguity.

I hope he did away with its belief of the Gaia hypothesis. I feel it doesn't fit his beliefs. Kinda wish he would interact with evolutionary psychology more. I still like his simple idea that humans are animals and therefore prone to certain behaviour.
