He's highly recommended around these parts but Cormac McCarthy has some good stuff. Especially his early, Appalachian based, works (Child of God, The Outer Dark, Suttree).
He deals very much with reclusive, nomadIC, and hermetic habits. McCarthy himself is very private and a social recluse himself so it really hits.

Now you've got me questioning myself. I've already read Laozi (as well as other Taoist texts, even the more obscure ones), the Pure Land Sutras, Walden, and In Praise of Shadows. I really liked all of them. I didn't know I was on my way to becoming a "hermit-aesthete," although I am quite reclusive...

How do I give up on life

Since you posted an Orthodox monk, I would really recommend the Philokalia. It's not strictly about dropping out of society, but more the practices of Orthodox monks over the last couple thousand years. I personally felt cheated when I learned that many of the things people claim to be exclusive to Dharmic religion are deeply familiar to the Orthodox faith. The Philokalia concerns inner silence and purity of heart just as much as any great Eastern text.

This is correct. Other texts in this vein you might be interested in are anything about the Desert Fathers, The Way of a Pilgrim, or saint's lives' chronicles, especially St. Moses the Ethiopian or other monastic saints.

Are there any Orthodox writings that are purely metaphysical? In the vein of the writings of Plotinus, Damascius, etc.

Why are there 10 threads about dorpping out of society all of a sudden?

Well, it's some intelligence agency obviously, but which one and for which purpose
