What's the difference between art and entertainment?

Art is an attempt to communicate some concept through a specific medium of communication. Entertainment's primary purpose to simply to excite or thrill, it can also attempt to communicate ideas but that is not it's primary purpose.

Art can be entertaining, but it can also be educational, or anagogical, or it can be a tool to carry the ethnic culture. What you call entertainment is a poor post-modernist kind of art that had its features cut off.

I hate "science" fiction so much; 99% of it resorts to magic wrapped in technology. Almost none of it is actual speculation based on current knowledge, just "bro what if...".

Science fiction is a 'bro what if' genre. That's the point. Bro what would happen to the world if [technology X] existed? Bro what would happen to [field X] if [technology X] were invented? Bro what would religious or political fanatics do with [technology X]? Dollars to donuts you internally consider Star Wars to be science fiction.

All entertainment is art, but not all art is entertaining. Anyone trying to act as if they're separate is most likely a very inept and boring writer trying to cope.

This is a dumb question, OP, you faggot. Art and entertainment are not separate categories. Entertainment is a subset of art. Some art exists for the purpose of entertainment. Other art exists to accomplish other goals, like education or instruction... especially moral or cultural instruction. There may be art that has other purposes, or no purpose.

Incidentally, the people who use art for instructional purposes are way more insufferable than entertainers. Looking at you Christfags and Marxists.
