This a good buy? I've never read any but American Gods and I've been meaning to get into Greg Bear and the Hunger Games were a suggestion from my girlfriend

Hunger games is crap, buy battle royale instead
American Gods is decent

But I'm looking for general sci-fi / fantasy. Stuff in a series. Very epic and large scale.

I was eying the Baroque Cycle but, I'm not sure if I'd want to buy that
