It's not cringe if it's authentic.
Someone giving what they are or how they do something can never make for embarrassing work. Unless you rate the level at where the performer is as embarrassing - which there's no reason to do, as the arts are plenty and nobody exceeds at everything. The market will solve the issue of whether a performer - good or exceeding at what they do - get center stage. Consuming anybodies heart-felt true work can thus not be cringe.

cringe is always authentic that's where irony originated from, however cringe can transcend recoil by being of substance ie the works of DFW, in that theyre so deeply self aware that it eclipses the uselessness of both the cringey event and any ironic distancing to return to a point of functionality
