When I was in my Humanities 101 / Intro to Western Civ class years ago we read excerpts of the PdG one week purely as an intro to the professor's own Marxist/Anarchist obsessions (because apparently all hitherto existing intellectual history is the pre-history of 1980s leftist feminism) but there was a student a few rows ahead of me before the class started talking to his friend about how he couldn't tell what the fuck Hegel was talking about and whether Hegel meant actual "spirits, like ghosts?"

He really thought it was about ghosts.
