writing an essay atm, need some input

its about irony and foreshadowing IN oedipus rex

heres what i need your input on:
The greek tragedy functions on the assumption that the audience is familiar with the story being told. Therefore foreshadowing is not possible because foreshadowing requires the ignorance of the reader to the events which will take place.
