He was mostly poor by choice, he rejected all literary prizes. He wasn't isolated either. He hanged out with Ionesco, Beckett, Eliade, his partner and so on. Even with his shitty health problems, he was relatively at ease.

>They say that it [suicide] is caused by disappointments, which implies that you have desired life, that you had expectations which it did not fulfill. A false dialectic! As if the suicide did not live before he died, did not have hopes, ambitions, pain.

This is what Cioran says about suicide in On the Heights of despair. I cannot understand why exactly the first sentence is a false dialectics and how the last one corrects it. Does he try to say it's false to treat life as some external object and try to rationalize suicide by some failures imposed on a subject by life? As opposed to turning to person's innermost experiences.

>"he must be subjected to the conflagration of fire, since 'fire' and 'not fire' are one. Pain must be inflicted on him through beating, since 'pain' and 'no pain' are one. And he must be denied food and drink, since eating and drinking and the abstention from both are one

I like how the full quote is omitted since death introduces another parameter normally unaccounted for.
