My friend's favorite books according to Facebook:

Ulysses, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, Dubliners, As I Lay Dying, Noam Chomsky

Is he trolling me?

>> No.1437486

Noam Chomsky isn't a book.

Richard Yates is now a book, so I guess it's just a matter of time.

Yeah, man.

He's probably trolling you, OP.

>> No.1437501

He hasn't read any of them, and if he has, he hasn't finished them. He knows that saying they're his favorite books will make him seem intelligent, and so pretends that they're some of his favorite while cradling his Stephen King novels. (not that I dislike King).

He's bullshitting everyone. The only people I've ever met who genuinely enjoy Ulysses are college professors. If your friend is not a professor, there is a 100% chance that he's a lying pretentious asshole. As I Lay dying is excellent and enjoyable though.

I'm not a professor, but I still found Ulysses interesting, after reading it cover to cover. And I'm glad I finally finished the damn thing.

>> No.1438104

Ulysses was an exercise in mind-fuckery for me, although I was 15 at the time.

>> No.1438108

ignoring that he's obviously lying, Dubliners isn't even good

>> No.1438119

>>1438108

Dubliners is good, don't be silly.

>> No.1438121

Dubliners shouldn't even be considered a book, any more than putting a bunch of comics in between two pieces of cardboard should be.

Someone needs to reconsider some basic definitions before posting here.

I'd be willing to bet that the only thing on that list that he's actually read is As I Lay Dying. He also probably watched a few videos of Chomsky on YouTube. It's not that I don't believe that people genuinely enjoy Joyce; it's just that a list that's three fifths Joyce seems highly suspicious. If those were really some of his favourite books, you'd think that he'd have other favourite books by similar authors; instead, he seems to have gone for one book he actually liked (As I Lay Dying), three books by a famous "intellectual" author, and a well-known political theorist.

Bullseye.

According to Facebook, 'I hate reading lol' is a book.

>mfw people actually care about this shit.

You're judging a man's taste and calling him a liar. You suck, /lit/.
