Is it fair to say that "metal-heads" have better literary tastes than most? Why do you think that is?

Ignored thread because filth like this destroys elevated states of mind and entrenches it in distraction which soon becomes habitual. Keep wallowing in the mire.

You're the one making the assertion, I think that it's fair that you fess up the reasons why you think so.

I don't think they even read. They probably just jack off to LaVey's Satanic Bible.

Why would they? They only /lit/ music is hip hop and rap, since lyrics matter there and artists use literally techniques.

They don't read literature. They read garbage like the Punisher, and sit on their ass playing Doom. Or make music. But they never fucking read literature. In short, shut the fuck up OP.

You don't know what you're talking about. It's not fantasy or even epic fantasy that's being referenced. It references early 20th century Weird Fiction which was a movement inspired by the French Symbolists/Decadents. Hyperborean is a reference to Clark Ashton Smith. Even if you were to know about Lovecraft, CAS is obscure enough to be undiscoverable without an interest in reading books of the genre.

>> No.14340484

No? Metal music borrows a lot from different mythologies and philosophies mainly satanism, but I've never heard them really dig deep into those subjects.

>>14337934
Not really. Almost every metalhead I know is into really "off-color" literature like Marquis de Sade or Suskind but has never really read them. I knew a metalhead in college who wanted to read Nietzche because he "understood that nothing matters and it's all bullshit"; he thought his name was pronounced "Frederick Nazi".

No. There's this ongoing myth perpetuated mostly by "metalheads" that they're the most well-read subculture of today and end up doing "intellectual" jobs as opposed to people listening to any other genre who are just sheep and end up in grocery stores or whatever. To a metalhead, being well-read means (one of) the following
>read the Eddas - he is now a master of Norse mythology and he will never miss an opportunity to show it off
>reads crime fiction - but he knew who the killer was halfway through; still, good read
>read at most one book by Nietzsche and/or Camus - he now understands that everything is void of meaning
>reads almost exclusively fantasy where they understand how that one character was a reference to the mythological one they read about on wikipedia or "watched in a documentary" and how epic the fight of one man is against the totality of his surroundings

Of course, there are people who listen to metal who actually read literature and understand what they've read, but the majority boils down to these couple of generic ideas.
