No, read Timaeus by Plato then read Advances by Derrida (or Dissemination, but that is too complicated.) Although you'll have to have understood what a chora was in ancient Greek political geography to grasp Plato's figurative use of it as a sort of inert womb of 'being.' (Most translations of Plato don't specify the unique place of the word 'khora' though; you'll have to find it by line references elsewhere.)

Reading some American associate professor instead of just reading Derrida. And recommending that approach...? Ugh.

This is strictly a Phaedrus thread fuckhead

You really need to feel this burn, because maybe it'll spur you on to be less of a complete intellectual fake: that quote you started this entire thread with, that one you 'really got,' really invested in, put up to show what an intellectual you are, comes from the introduction Derrida wrote to a book about Timaeus. Instead, you content yourself with reading a shit take on it by a guy who might as well be an attorney or a banker, and play the thirdhand intellectual. It's a really beautiful stupidity. Truly.

OP is addressing an essay on Derridas Pharmacy which starts with 'that quote', he even posted a picture of it.>>14318784
Also that 'American associate professor' goes into Derridas next essay on the Timeus in the next chapter of that same book. May be of interest to you since you find Derrida 'too complicated'.

Anyways,

OP, I don't know if you know but the Philosopher Hermias wrote a commentary on the Phaedrus. It consists of notes based on the lectures conducted by Syrianus concerning Plato's Phaedrus. They have a copy of it at my university, I highly suggest it

What’s the name of the book? And thank you that sounds really interesting. Did you read the Haas book on Derrida then?
