the slower I read the more I can absorb the content. the books that changed my life the most, were the ones that I read a chapter a day, or 3 chapters a week. so I had time to process the information I read, think about it overtime. Also, when reading it, when something got me thinking I stop and wonder. and if I didn't understand I would go back over and over, until I get it.

how do I cope with reading faster? I feel like I'm wasting my time being so slow. but also, I want to read more books. how do you manage/balance this?

Read easy/comfort books in between the hard ones; and, when reading them, try to read quicker than you can subvocalise. You will be surprised at how quickly and coherently your brain can process information.

Difficult books should be read slowly. Easy books should not. (Unless you're a writer who wants to study prose, etc.)

Do you go full slow in difficult books, or do you pick your fights? Let's say if something that's hard to understand but you feel that's not relevant to the point. Or not relevant to the point you're reading the difficult book.

Anybody got the shop of this but he's reading Infinite Jest and Milk & Honey?

I saw it on here many years ago but I've since lost the computer it was saved on.

my ex-gf used to read a lot more than I did. but her life/mind didn't change as mine did. when she talked about the stuff she read, she would always comment on writing style and character choices. I felt that was kind of superficial. I always tried to confront the authors worldview with mine and see what can I take from it. idk if that's because I read it better, or just focused on different things.
but after realizing that, I was more lenient on my slow read.

Reading isn't a race. Read at the speed the most enjoyable to you. People who read so they can brag about reading are wasting their fucking time, and forget most of the material two days latter

Most people forget what they read anyway. If you're going to forget it, why read it slowly?
