I, as well as my young and inexperienced piers, have fallen in love with fight club and its ideas. Any recommendations for an avid reader/wannabe writer?

No you haven't. You're on a fucking board, talking about books when you should be destroying modern civilization. Now shut the fuck up and come at me bro.

You going to loan me a couple laboratories so me and like minded people that believe the world is fucked-any-way-you-look-at-it can create a wonderful little virus similar to what happens in BUSTER CASEY(rabies)
Society is full of rats anyways...
So I'm going to venture off into the mountains (with my collection of palahniuk novels) to avoid stressful trolls like you>>>>1430362

ITT: OP doesn't realize the book (and film) is a diatribe against Durden's infantile politics.

You'd think that Durden failing and everything being real shitty later on would give a little clue.

quick question, if "John" didnt kill himself, then how did Durden die? wouldnt Durden still exist because "John" is still alive?

He was bored, jaded, and confused because he did jack shit with his life. He went nutso with an alternate personality because of his own personal problems, then projected them onto society as if it were society's fault that he's a limp douche who never bothered to try and stand out in the first place. He just wants to be a kid again with an idealized version of childhood instead of the bullshit he went through with his parents described in the book. The rest is a satire of male machismo and a cynical representation of insane authority figures being seen as charismatic and the morons who follow them.
Most of Palahniuk's novels' protagonists and the shit they put themselves through can be summed up with pic related.

More specifically the so-called "radical left" in the West, which obviously shares many features with the later incarnation of the fight club.

>> No.1430829

"Fight Club" is a lot like "The Matrix" in that they make really basic concepts of philosophy available to people who'd otherwise never read philosophy.

I'd say he's a character that's easy to relate to because it's a common thing in middle class life. That's the long and short of it, to me.

Sure, but Tyler Durden is an over the top product of that middle class alienation and over-reaction to the perceived loss of masculinity, which becomes more and more pervasive in the world or atleast the first world post ww2. But Fight Club is still a diatribe against the childish desires that result in producing/worshiping Tyler.
