look i dont like these kinds of threads either, i suppose my original post wasn't thought through very far, why don't I try again: for anyone who was read GK Chesterton's fiction AND theology/philosophy, how many of his ideas echo in his fiction and are his essays self contained or do they require prior reading?

i recommend not reading fat people at all as they are subhuman. however, if you were REALLY INTERESTED in this gluttonous and obese pig, read Heretics.

i was just joking, these threads are still better than twitter screencap and vaguely-guised political or race bait threads. anyway, i am catholic but i haven't read chesterton, adn i'm inclined to agree with >>14284013, that a fatass like him was inherently a glutton, so maybe don't take spiritual advice from him, or at least take it with a grain of salt if you do. i commit worse sins than gluttony myself, but idk, being a fat fuck is just so shameless.

Read his poetry, too, it's very good.

>> No.14284090

Read his essays. He was a preeminent, penultimate, plenipotent purveyor of penning such pieces. In Defense of Sanity is a good anthology to start with.

At least he wasnt a neckbeard incel like you two, and understood that catholicism isn't about self flagellation and that it's okay to enjoy life.

If only it was that easy. How can life be "enjoyed" while evil persists, where maybe it thrives?

is that you, CK? i have good news, gravity-warper. there are others like you - masses of overweight dogs who have created a massive leap in diabetes and heart treatments. you may have a chance at life yet, you slimy fish n chip gobbling hamster.

start with heretics and orthodoxy. Neither is long. I also heavily recommend "The ballad of the white horse". It's my favorite poem.

I'd start with this one senpai:

>The Flying Inn is a novel first published in 1914 by G. K. Chesterton. It is set in a future England where a "progressive" form of Islam has triumphed and now dominates the political and social life of the country. Because of this, alcohol sales are prohibited. The plot centers around the adventures of Humphrey Pump and Captain Patrick Dalroy, who roam the country in their alcohol-laden cart in an attempt to evade the Prohibition.

Not OP, but some asshole I work with told me Chesterton “totally DESTROYED determinism”, which I find unlikely to say the least. Could anyone summarize his philosophical work on free will?

I quite enjoyed The Man Who Was Thursday. I read Orthodoxy and Heretics, and found them interesting but unconvincing. Lepanto is ebin. Haven't read any of the Father Brown stories, but they seem cozy and fun.

I don't think you need much background to enjpy his work.
