I'm 35. I have a BA in English, and I earned a bunch of graduate credits before taking a break from the academy (my environmental books are covering up a bunch of theory and ret/comp books). Honestly, I wouldn't think of yourself as behind. I'm still working on 20 percent or so of mine (Earthsea, His Dark Materials, fantasy mostly), and I don't count my reference books at all (I'm not going to read, say, my Chicago Manual of Style).

I’ve probably read 60% of the stories and they seem very hit or miss...I feel that way with a lot of Japanese fiction.it could be bc stuff is lost in translation or the culture is too different from my own.i always come back to it though bc when it hits, it can be sublime

That happened to me but in reverse. Growing up, I had wall shelving at the foot of my bed. One night when sleeping, the shelves ripped out of the dry wall and fell on me. Woke me up. For about 3 seconds I panicked, thinking I was paralyzed because I couldn’t move my legs under the weight of all the books.

Yes, I apologize for not being some system oriented autist who only purchases the finest organized leatherback books found for 70 dollars a piece. I also don't colour coordinate the shelf and don't assess to particular genres like I am in a library. If anything you have shown how painfully shallow you are by this "haphazard" assessment you make from one shelf.

It's fine. When I first got it, I loaded it up full across with no concern for weight and then stacks of books on top of those books. Fucked up the shelves, but I don't expect them to collapse under a normal distribution of books.

Instead of 9.5 they stand about 9.2-9.3 inches. So every single book on the shelf is not the same height, each rows books are uniform height. I like organizing them like this because you don’t notice the different sizes.
