I find that people that actually describe themselves with these labels of "white identity" are usually cultureless and brainless and don't read and I can run circles around them in literature, history, philosophy, music, art, etc. You would think that people with Eurocentric world views would learn about the "Western canon" (a stupid label) but no they are usually midwits. Really makes you question what they mean by "white identity" when they don't know anything about culture. They are all just resentful people.

Memes aside, you're more or less correct about whiteness being essentially an Americanism. It's interesting, several trains of thought were running at the same time in the 20th century that deal with this--we should consider them. First, the European identities are more localized than white or not white; there are Englishmen and Irishmen, Greeks (prior to turkification) and Italians, so on and so forth. During the period where the majority of American immigrants were European, these locally European identities persisted. As well they should have; Germans tended to settle together, Irishmen stuck together, etc. Within a few generations one can imagine a more rootless sense of a generalized "european" forming in America where these groups intermarried at higher rates than they did back home. This coincides nicely with the civil rights movement in America, where "white" as a catch-all term for "not African" became a useful shorthand. Even still, years earlier in Europe there was growing a different but similar anthropological trend which was borne out rather convincingly by numerous fields--chief among them linguistics. The Indo-European cultures most definitely spring from a common root, and now the archaeological record and genetic testing bears out the truth of what the mythological comparitivists an the linguists and philologists were positing as early as the late 19th century: very real case of an "Aryan" ancestor.

The Jewish interests in America were quite interested in pushing the idea of a collectivized "white" American identity because it effectively deconstructs the various European peoples in America and isolates them from their heritage. What we wind up with is an increasingly disenfranchised American population with a terminally poor understanding of or sense of duty to their culture and heritage. In Europe, the situation for those who would not have the "whites" fight for their own interests faced a more scientifically stalwart issue: the Aryan hypothesis. They were able to combat this model by sheer force of propaganda following the defeat of the Germans in WWII; effectively stigmatizing the idea that the descendants of and inheritors of Indo-European cultures can ever view themselves as boughs on the tree of a deeply ancient, single ethnic entity whose strength, spirituality, social order, language, and world-view shaped them all from their very foundations. This is what Moseley meant when he said "no more brother wars."
