Rap really is the highest form of literature. Combines top level poetry with music. I am absolutely in awe of what these MCs can do.

Tolstoy was volatile and mentally ill, Melville was a wreck, Dosto was too, Salinger went insane, Mann wanted to fuck his son, Proust and Joyce were bizarre, Nietzsche went insane. Greatness tends to do that and I presume you're talking about Kanye West

In actuality all the best rappers, that is the most poetic and musical, aren't even American and rap in their own languages. And the best American rappers are white.

Maybe we’ll hold hands as we get swallowed into Earth’s core
Or we could sing a Christmas carol like a little chorus choir
By a thousand Christmas trees lit up from a forest fire
And watch the prancing dashing comets blitz into the forest pyre
Not the reindeer but the kind that killed the brontosaurus prior
And all it’s dino peers, and if the ice age hits then we could be rancheros on the high frontier
Anthropocene pioneers
And melt each other’s hearts on thawing glaciers in the cryosphere
The worst part is this wasn’t always something that we couldn’t stop
Like, we lived through every benchmark
I remember me and you read every update 'bout sea levels on our desktop
So if we can’t save us, maybe we could save the future from environmental deadlock
Maybe in an era when we’re settled into bedrock
A later civ would dig us out, and we’d make headlines, heck, we might even make a TED talk
And we could write a note, like "don’t fuck up your planet, please
Look at how things turned out for humanity”
And maybe they would read it, or maybe they would use our carbon molecules
And particles from follicles as fossil fuel
Maybe it’s impossible to change things
But we can try them anyway
Be carbon-complex renegades and then decay
And I would hold you near as we’re infected by the Zika or Ebola scares
Get smoldered by a solar flare or iced out with the polar bears
I promise

Blastin' holes in the night 'til she bled sunshine

Breathe out, weed smoke retrace the skyline

Wild like rock stars who smash guitars
Poison bars from the gods bust holes in your mirage
And catch a charge, shake 'em down like the riot squad
Invade your zone, ruin like ancient Rome
I span the universe and return to Earth to claim my throne
The maker, owner, plus soul controller
Ayatollah rest in the sky, the cloud's my sofa
Stand like Collossus regardless to whom or what
Numerous attempts at my life, so who to trust?
Who but us to supply ya with the fire
The burning truth, 150 Absolut proof
On the mic like Moses spoke in golden scribe
Survivor of the oldest tribe whose soldiers died
I notified families, we shed tears and mourn
But our hands are on the ammo 'cause the battle still on
Sound the horn, we come rumblin' through the function
Precise laser beam technique to touch somethin'
When we die hard, they'll build a monument to honor us with

I got a call from my girl last week
She telling me about that time of the month and how it may not come
Dropped the phone right before she said I might have a son
And I started asking God how come
I got dreams I ain't reached yet – ends that ain't meet yet
When it comes to being a man, shit I'm barely getting my feet wet
Trying to hit reset knee deep in debt
Trying to figure how to feed a mouth that ain't got teeth yet
How the hell am I gonna show a child to be a man
When I'm twenty-two without a clue on how to take a stand
Against this system when it's just us, wanna show him justice
But last year I was just in cuffs
What the fuck am I supposed to do when he's telling me 'Dad I need some food?'
I'm looking down at my stomach and mine is grumbling too
What can I tell him when he's twenty-two
And he's asking me what the fuck I was thinking when mommy's tummy grew?
Was I scared, was I getting prepared?
Or did I even think of leaving her without a father's care?
Should I tell him that it's hell here and life ain't fair?
Or should I try to make a change when he's pulling on my leg?

I sip the Dom P, watching "Gandhi" 'til I'm charged
Then writing in my book of rhymes, all the words past the margin
To hold the mic I'm throbbin', mechanical movement
Understandable smooth shit that murderers move with
The thief's theme: play me at night, they won't act right
The fiend of hip-hop has got me stuck like a crack pipe
The mind activation, react like I'm facin' time like
"Pappy" Mason, with pens I'm embracin'
Wipe the sweat off my dome, spit the phlegm on the streets
Suede Timb's on my feets makes my cipher complete
Whether crusing in a Sikh's cab, or Montero Jeep
I can't call it, the beats make me falling asleep
I keep falling, but never falling six feet deep

Yeah, look
Twist the cap, lift the bottle back, swig it
Dig it, ten-inch rims on my mama’s Civic
Ten-inch woofers in the trunk, to be specific
They bump, rattle the license plate, plus the windows tinted
Don’t even give a fuck that it’s dented, bitch, I’m the man now
I’m rolling, driving it slow as if it’s stolen
Piling up bros like we was clothing on a dresser
Calling up hoes like we was Jodeci, let’s check her
Double D’s like double-deckers, I wanna sex her
But these keys don’t come with game on how to finesse her
Five semesters left until college, I’m under pressure
I’m not a real nigga ’til I undress her, I gotta ‘press her
This was my main concern back when concerns were lesser
Nowadays, I often yearn to press the
Backspace button or hit return but life is not no word processor
Most folks would burn the sess to burn the stress of
My real-life trauma plus fickle niggas thinking they done heard the best of
Jermaine Lamarr but that’s insane, it couldn’t be further left of
The truth is that my new shit slap, you never heard it better
Give me a sec, I murder sectors, prefer to let ya
See it rather than say it, but it spill out, I gotta chill out
Say “Fuck the world” and never pull out
We had no Boblo boat but I could note
Those times is like a Bible quote
BC, before cell phones, the first time I would smoke
I was six years old, but that’s for another chapter
That’s for another story, to God be the glory
I made it out unscathed and now I sunbathe
With my son in Tanzanian sunrays thinking ’bout them days

They like, "YG, why you so extra'd out?"
'Cause I pull up in a drop, like bitch check me out
I don't drive no Tesla, I got too much clout
Take it out her pussy hole, put it in her mouth
Ooh, they like, "Damn that nigga nasty"
Yeah, fuckin' on a bitch that's classy
Yeah, the dick was good, she harassed me
Yeah, then I nutted on them ass cheeks
2's, 3's, 4's and 5's, eight hunnid, nine hunnid on mine
I commit crimes all the time, I convince my homies to slide
Take this pistol, you down to ride?
Cock the pistol, it's hammer time
Paparazzi, I'm tryna hide
Fuck the bitch, she traumatized
Yeah, just when thinkin' you surpassed me
Yeah, me and Mustard link and we go hammy
Yeah, we both 'bout to cop the Lambies
Yeah, valet the '64 at the Grammys

[Chorus: YG]
Hop in the coupe, subtract the roof like what it do?
Heard you don't like me, well nigga fuck you too
Heard you tryna wife her up, I'm tryna pipe her loose
All my niggas got stripes (rah!), sabertooth
Big Ps, Big Bs, nigga suu whoop
(Brr, brr) Hello? What it Ru?
900 block, back down to the deuce
I'm the man, bitch I walk 'round like I'm bulletproof

[Verse 2: Jay 305]
Ooh, Jay 305, why you extra'd out?
Ooh, pull up to your house to pack your daddy out
Yeah, sexy lil' vegan want it right now
She don't even eat meat, but she gon' eat it now
Ooh, devil on my back and I'm set trippin'
I got stabbed six times, homie my mind different
Stay Dangerous in LA, if you gang affiliated
South Central most hated, watch out
Ooh, Khloe Kardashian in my t-shirt
For you hatin' ass nigga, I know that gotta hurt
Ghetto superstar since I was 16
Now I got a billboard on Crenshaw and King
Yeah, all around the world like Ice Cube
Pimp a bitch, fuck peace in all my interviews
Gettin' rich, fuck a bitch, cracker fuck your rules
Porsche coupe, two bitches, I'm the fuckin' truth

[Chorus: YG]
Hop in the coupe, subtract the roof like what it do?
Heard you don't like me, well nigga fuck you too
Heard you tryna wife her up, I'm tryna pipe her loose
All my niggas got stripes (rah!), sabertooth
Big Ps, Big Bs, nigga suu whoop

This is such an interesting take, it’s a real insight into brainletism. I always wondered if morons have reduced discernment or find certain things simply obtuse. Your post suggests being stupid is kind of like being colour blind.

Imagine thinking the result of a hedonistic culture that glorifies crime, not taking responsibility for the several kids you spawn, doing copious amounts of drugs until your heart stops, shooting people who simply look at you wrong, and dropping out of school because a few rich guys mumble into a mic about how they got out despite the several other million who failed to make a career has any semblance of art to it
Imagine being this fucking retarded
Imagine being this idiotic
Imagine encouraging this behavior
Imagine actually saying it would have merit whether its a black or a white guy mumbling bout "muh dick"
Imagine

There's so much I can show you
Without rolling through Beverly Hills
Without money, cars, clothes, or even ecstasy pills
I don't need weed to ease me when I'm stressing for real
I just close my eyes and try to think how heaven feels
Just to feel good again, even though when I open 'em
It's back to the hood again where kids hold chrome with 'em
Just to feel protected 'cause the videos are showing them
How to shoot fools and take their dough from 'em
That's why I try to give my to soul to them with lyrics I spit
They reject it 'cause they're stressing for material shit
Getting sick and tired of fighting over cereal gifts
'Cause they know these bitches go head over heels for the whips
And the chains and the chips, and the Range and the clips
And the guns, and the women and the fun living in cribs in the 'burbs
Fuck the slums, they want funds and they heard
Flippin' birds is the ticket, so they get it and run with it
Some slip and fall, others pause see the outcome and crawl
On the road for some change, cause the game is too hard
To play straight by the rules
I'm trying to stay out the news
And make cake to buy food
Fuck jewels I think my soul glows bright enough
And fuck whips I learn more when I ride the bus
And fuck gold it's bad enough that we fight for bucks
And fuck hoes cause in the end I need a wife to love
Plus heaven is the life for us so God...

I used to love hiphop when I was a kid, but now I can't be bothered with it anymore, musically speaking. Now I only sometimes listen to instrumentals and the cLOUDDEAD album. I still respect good lyricist and love good wordplay, a capella rap battles are cool as hell and even sparked my love for language, that's worth checking out at least.

However, I predict that in a decade or so hiphop will be pushed towards academic levels and only be done by conservatory Jews and Spanish exchange students, with the occasional nigger thrown in for good measure. Just like jazz.

A capella battle rap is great but the language is so coded you could hardly expect to successfully expose other people to it as an artform. Too many people mistake the bravado as the point rather than the vehicle to deliver some sort of a simile or entendre or nameflip, etc. Nu Jerzy Twork is especially diverse in his material. He had a bunch of great Nebuchadnezzar/Jesus/Biblical references versus JC.

I didn't expect to see samsa in this thread. But I think it's worth nothing that he's not a nigger so better lyrics are to be expected.

That's what's fun. Figuring out all the references and schemes. I wouldn't know anything about those guys, I only watch Dutch ones but thanks for the suggestion I guess. Also, look up flyting if you haven't already, battle rap ain't nothing new

>That's what's fun. Figuring out all the references and schemes
100%, my only contention being that the layman who doesn't actively engage battle rap doesn't know what to listen for. Ergo, since they don't necessarily know how to identify a scheme, a reference, dissect the slang, etc, which is almost a completely different language in terms of the listener having an ability to parse it, they typically default back onto taking the spoken word at face value (see most of this thread). Hence the multitude of opinions that rapping is specifically about bravado and thuggery, not that bravado and thuggery are just the window dressing, the vehicle, the context, the framework for those expressions of language to exist inside of.

Of course this generally only applies to battle rap since a lot of music can simply fall back on the beat or a melody and the lyrics can be about literally nothing as long as it retains a certain musicality about it to be catchy, and become popular. Battle rap is unique in its almost direct-oppositeness, being that it has nothing else to fall back on, the lyrical content has to be very engaging, complex, and with a point or a punchline or else you're just spitting "filler". And whereas some rappers really are all about the thuggery (but they still have to amplify the content of their rounds by incorporating schemes and punchlines, so it still isn't simply a face value thing), there's also the offset of people who aren't actually about "that life", but still love battle rap, and have to find their way to maneuver around the culture. A perfect example in that case I would feel is Iron Solomon, who had arguable Battle of the Year 2017(?), arguably even the battle of his career (and he was already considered a legend in battle rap) versus Rum Nitty (who also had the best Jew/Iron/Solomon flips I've ever heard; that was a very big style clash but in the end it turned out for great for the culture).

Elitism is a good thing unironlly. Trying to encorporate an out group artificial always reduces an art form. I’m not into rap, but I get the gist of what you are saying.
