The Catholic herald is not only under the influence of Jesuits, but Anglo Jesuits to make it even worse. Guenon is an important figure in all modern theology and Catholicism is no exception. Wolfgang Smith, Rama Coomaraswamy, Jean Borella, and Jean Hani are all Catholic theologians heavily influenced by Guenon, with books that received the imprimatur no less. Guenon was even taught in SSPX seminaries at one point. Make no mistake, there are many things that Catholics must disagree with Guenon about, but this sort of Jesuit hit piece is a classic of the order and is extremely embarrassing to read as a Catholic. The article has no understanding of what Guenon means by tradition and religion.

It's not even a hitpiece. The article is actually rather neutral. That his beliefs are heretical by Catholic standards is simply an objective fact.

>This is more authentically reflected in some religions than in others – and for Guénon, at best in Islam.
Wrong, he refers to Hinduism/Vedanta in his works as being the closest to the truth if not equal with Islam/Sufism.
>The whole idea of being “spiritual, but not religious” might be seen as a result of his work, though he probably would have disapproved.
Guenon had little influence upon the hippies movement of the 60's from whence that became increasingly popular, I think that's a really tenuous connection

my first impression is some boomer who has never actually read him and who felt compelled to write an article denouncing him after seeing Tradcaths on twitter debating for/against Guenon

Definitely not as much as I could have but enough to know that the Islamic tradition is as much tainted and meddled with as the christian one. Most of the written works are written decades or centuries after the events took place by second or third hand witnesses and nowdays the authenticity of most hadiths is doubted by most secular scholars.

>> No.14220392

The single biggest problem with Catholicism, and really Christianity in general, is and has always been Christian dogma. These articles just expose that. Whether you like Guenon or not, they’re opinionated hit pieces formed from a wiki page and no more. Anyone who’s familiar with Guenon would not be shocked at all that a “Catholic” corporation is not a fan of his. Move along.
