Why was he so afraid of reading about The Occult/Black Magic? Why did he feel the need to warn these students?

Gurdjieff teachings. The best starting point is a very readable book by his student Ouspensky called In Search of the Miraculous. Half of it is batshit crazy but the other half makes a ton of sense, about attention, self-remembering, and going through life in a state of sleep. Also, the Reality of Being by Jeanne de Salzmann

Those lines are from Monty Python's Meaning of Life, and they were almost definitely written by Cleese, who is a proponent of the works of Maurice Nicoll, another student of Gurdjieff.

I haven't personally read too deep into the occult. I started with following this guide.

The books that I've read personally are;
Prometheus Rising by Wilson
Info Psychology by Leary
Principia Discordia by Thornley
Undoing Yourself by Hyatt
Abrahadabra by Orpheus
Analects by Confucius
Dammapada by Buddha
Yoga Sutras by Patanjali
Bhagavad Gita by Krishnu

Those aren't really directly related t the occolt though. They're in the same vain but Abrahadabra was the closest to the real thing.

The books I've heard about but never read are;
The Upanishads
The Hermetica
Three Initiates - Kybalion
Agrippa - Three Books of Occult Philosophy
Crowley - Gems From The Equinox
Regardie - Complete Golden Dawn System Of Magic
Duquette - Handbooks Of Rituals Of Thelma
Alli - Angel Tech
Carrol - Condenced Chaos

The only good authors offering somewhat valuable insight in this chart are Jung, Reich, Nietzsche, Huxley and Leary

I wouldn't bother reading Joyce, Eco, Eliot, Wilson

Crowley, Steiner, Hill/Thornley (Principia Discordia) and Blavatsky are literal retards

honestly you just gotta accept synchronicities are real, try to roll with them and make your own discoveries and conclusions from there. this might sound retarded but it's too abstract to be taught in a meaningful way with our current language

The Kybalion is new age garbage I have no clue why people keep recommending that shit.

In my opinion the best part of the occult, the enlightenment aspect, can be found more reliably in mystical traditions of major religions. I would be willing to bet someone who deeply studies Eastern Orthodox mysticism, who works under a Vedic or Vajryana Buddhist teacher, or practices Sufism seriously will make greater spiritual gains and reach enlightened states far more quickly and wholly than a burned out Thelemite engaging in low level sex magic (read; oral sex with candles and robes) or a Satanist obsessed with Will to Power but unable to pay his rent.

A few months ago someone linked a website with a few hermitic texts, and like an idiot I read half of one then forgot to save the bookmark
The text in question was about a vision a man had where he sees everything as earth and water combined, then a light shines down into it iirc.
Also, this may not have been on the same website but another was about how man came to earth and dominated each planet on the way, taking their power for their own. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

When you make deals with infernal entities a mortal does not have have the knowledge or insight to understand the true nature of the deal, or the full cost.

These entities fulfill their end of the bargain by manipulating the subtle realms where they reside. This is something YOU can learn to do, with practice, on your own.

It is like hiring a crooked contractor to repair your counters or build you a cabinet. He charges you way too much, and if he's a real fink he also initiates a frivolous lawsuit or files a false lien on your property. A big problem you my never fix. All for something you could have learned to do yourself. Which would have been much cheaper, and infinitely more rewarding. You could have even requested the aid of honest contractors (i.e. Christ, angels, saints, God) to make your work more effective and quicker.

"Occultism" in the western tradition generally refers to magic that involves dealing with entities found in Grimoires. That's what Lee is talking about here.

A transcendental philosophy that layers a new cosmology on top of orthodox Christianity. God (the Demiurge) is real and created the world, but he's a crazy asshole who only has power over his material creation. That's why it makes no sense and you suffer. Christ isn't his son, but the son of a greater power named Sofia who lives in a supernal realm outside of God's reach, named Babelo or whatever. Faith in Christ lets you escape God's malevolent power and the realm where he's trapped you. If you believe in this fanfic version of Christ you can go to your true spiritual home when you die. Also allowing souls to incarnate in the Demiurge's prison is bad so you shouldn't have sex for the purposes of procreation.

It's a heresy that crops up in some form from time to time. The Cathars were essentially Gnostics. Several prot cults fit the bill. As do modern New-Agers.

There's a major school of Occultism where instead of making a deal you command the demons in the name of Christ, angels, and so forth. In this case it's like forcing the crooked contractor to build your shelves at gunpoint. Or maybe with a court order. Analogies are imperfect but again you're dealing with a sinister being that has every reason to double cross you and hates what you're making him do. Will he do a good job? No. Will you still be fucked at the end? Non-zero chance. Could you still have learned to DIY, and in the end had a result you take satisfaction in? Yep.

No, it's in several major works. I don't deal with lesser entities -at all-. If you think you need them for something you should reexamine your priorities.

As for "will they do a reluctant, shoddy job if you command them" modern occult writers say so.

>>14215049
Naw essentially you're supposed to live like an ascetic. This world is bad and you shouldn't become attached to it, etc. Again, it's a fanfic version of Christianity so it will share much of its moral attitudes, only in weirder forms.

You have two options

1) Go learn what gnosticism actually is by studying it historically, as an actual phenomenon in the history of religions. Maybe start with Hans Jonas' classic book, The Gnostic Religion.

2) Listen to the cartoonish summary of some LARPing Discord faggot who edits "Morrowind CHIM theory" pages on a fan wiki. Spend the next 3 years of your life pinging between "Accelerationist" Discords, pseudo-gnostic Discords, and so on, all filled with retarded dilettantes with no self-awareness.
