Is it okay to read plays? Or should I be watching them instead?
I mean it kinda makes sense to watch a production instead of read it, it is a play after all. But they make you read Shakespeare in school. Though I guess whenever we did, we usually watched a movie of it at some point...

I guess the question is, are play meant to be read or not?

Almost always read plays. Watching is for the witless

The thing about watching a play is you're not exactly consuming the work itself, you're consuming the work through the lenses of the production. It's a rewarding experience if the production is good, but ultimately you're watchin a production of the play, not the play as it was originally intended.

If the author directs a production of their own play you should watch it. If the production is supposed to be a good one you can watch it. But you should read them.

Honoka Yukishiro from original Pretty Cure huh? I find it weird that I didn't see her being posted around this website.

When I was a wee lad Honoka was kinda my waifu and based my ideal girl type around her. I'm not a weeb anymore but maybe that's why I'm still attracted with girls with pale skin and thick dark eyebrows. I actually saw some girls like that in high school and church.

Anyways yes but also need to watch if you're going to study in-depth

You should act them

Reading a play is ultimately incomplete. Just like reading a movie script without ever watching the movie.
Once you have watched a few play it is easy to have the piece play out in your head but still a play life's by the actors who give it live.

Every Shakespeare production I've seen has had gender-swapping or homosexuality.
I've learned to read.

Just like Shakespeare's times?

As someone who does both, the correct method indeed feels like doing both.
First one must become familiar with the text, read it, try to play it out in his head, then he must go out and see how others reenact it. What did they miss? What did they do different? Was their different or accurate portrayal of said play good ?
Once you have both sources of information experienced you have something to work with and compare them to achieve the middle ground of understanding the play altogether. It is also a good way to engage in dialogue with people who have experienced all, some or none of the content.

anyways good taste honoka bros im personally a nagisa person but they're both good.

Seems to be the same as with novels and their film adaptations.
