Did Epictetus believe in an afterlife? He talks a lot about becoming a friend of God, and even becoming a God like Diogenes by rejecting even what is offered to you.

An afterlife somewhat defeats the purpose of stoicism. The fact that life will inevitably end is why Stoic values seem particularly appealing. I can't personally speak on Epictetus and his view of the afterlife, but we can likely assume he held the same belief of which is a core tenet of his school of thought. Take Marcus Aurelius's 17th meditation in Meditations: IV: "Don't live as though you were going to live a myriad years. Fate is hanging over your head; While you have life, while you may, become good.
