Lit Quarterly - this is the pre-show Anonymous Mon Nov 18 15:18:03 2019 No.14192282 [Reply] [Original]

Just wanted to give an update: the Lit Quarterly is being edited right now. The printers have offered a distribution service which will see the quarterly distributed via Amazon. Once it's compiled and printed, I will share a link here. It will probably be the third week of December (so quite late, probably not in time for Christmas delivery). Those who have contributed but haven't received payment, please email me at litquarterly@gmail.com.

Editorial selection process will become more strict and strenuous for next edition. But don't hesitate to contribute.
(Pic related is first edition; second edition will improve upon every aspect).

ALSO: taking ideas for a subtitle for the second edition. The first edition's subtitle was "Geneses" to denote the beginnings of the quarterly. What short subtitle could we use for the second edition?

Generally, no. The poetry covers all types of things, but the writing is mostly serious and not humorous. The fiction and essays are a bit heavy as well, covering themes of solitary wanderers, the struggles of the modern man, troubling social trends, friends growing apart, strange health phenomena...everything, really.

But the Oxford Latin Dictionary translates "I accelerate" to "accelero" (1st conjugation), which makes the infinitive form ("to accelerate") "accelerare".

I would not trust Google Translate with the subtleties of latin grammar

Wouldn't meganz or dropbox work? I think they only require money if you store above a certain GB limit.

Picking a subtitle in a language you don’t read or understand is about as meaningful as picking a gibberish word for that subtitle.

Use a metaphor. The early stages of a tree’s growth: “sapling”? “Society grows great when old men plant trees..”. Or “eukaryote”, in Greek, a kernel: the DNA-carrying hard-celled kernel of life-data. You might also consider “metaphase” from mitosis, if you like the biology theme but want to make it a more obvious chronological progression.

Please for the love of god don’t just use a random latin word. Cringy and brainless

i kinda agree. It makes more sense for it to all be anonymous. What are we doing by namefagging? Simply larping that we will 'somehow' become 'discovered' and this will be our 'big break' maybe just let people give a series of letters and numbers, no spaces. Like just a maximum of ten characters, so if you get published multiple times we can see your writing evolution, or whatever continuances you would look for. But also somewhat bridging the gap between absolute reddit-tier namefags and complete edgy 'anon' a hundred times, that would inevitably get old.

If you've a philosophy you want to see acted on, start a publication or a website. I like the traditional lit journal format. This board has the potential to spark a variety of interesting artifacts. You have every potential to create a completely anonymous publication. That's not what many are looking for even though we're using pseudonyms. Its not really hiding, it more of an aesthetic thing I guess, I'm just trying to contribute to what seems to be a contender for thread of the week; I haven't seen such zeal in this place for quite a long while. And the character limit just served as a means to maintain a unique aesthetic that is particular to this domain within the vastness of the internet. A series of letters that harken back to the beginning of the man who made the work, I think we would be remiss to deny our roots, to try to transcend out pit of mud and hell, that we all have dwelled for very long. This is a very nice place, I want the quaterly to represent that. And when the year comes when lit is dead, many decades more to come I hope, this book remains a testament to this period of time, and if it stands untrueful, unfaithful now, it will be a pale reflection of the times of old we will gaily reminisce about in our waning years.
