Pessimism is realism that's why is not liked, optimism is liked because it causes a placebo effect and placebo is real, liking optimism is an evolutionary advantage

Pessimism isn't realism. Like with most things in life, the truth is often found somewhere in the middle, amidst a sea of greys.

I don't know where this "Schopenhauer is depressing" meme comes from but when I read him I feel relief and comfort instead of sadness.

Schopenhauer was the heir of Plotinus.

I find him refreshingly down to earth and eminently simple (in a good way). I know it's partially on purpose because he wanted to be the complete opposite of Hegel's obscurantism but the result is extremely pleasant.

This, extremely comfy and right about (almost) everything. He strays from the truth in his ethics when advocating denial of the will-to-live. Nietzsche is the fix to this.

>> No.14186341

>>14186204
Nietzsche isn't really the fix since he and later existentialists failed to overcome nihilism. Just an attempt at a fix.

He provides the path to a fix. He himself stumbled on this path proving how difficult it is.

Right about what? Just a loser perspective that others losers will find true based on their personal experience of the world. Does this make it the truth? Far from it. Life is suffering, for example, is a categorical statement that doesn't ring true for a lot of us. If you spend your life reading and being bitter about stuff you don't have instead that find ways to reach them this is the result.
If you are clinically depressed is another matter, but if you are just lazy this is the result: you find truth in foolish philosopher.

Schopenhauer’s philososphy is more than just the statement ‘life is suffering.’ He has a whole epistemological and ontological framework too, not to mention his aesthetics. Furthermore your reduction of suffering to reading and being bitter shows clearly you do not know what he meant. Please do yourself a favor and read instead of opining on topics you have a meme understanding of. Not only will this spare you further embarrassment but maybe you will also gain insight into why men such as Einstein, Schrödinger, Jung, Tolstoy, and Wagner were proponents of Schopenhauer.

He is a pessimist of the nature of desire, but he is an optimist in the fact that there is some way to escape the state of desiring into aesthetic bliss.

Lmao the retard just googled Schopenhauer and read the sentence "life is suffering" on Wikipedia and thinks criteria of truth in philosophy is "personal experience of the world".

Philosophical pessimism isn't the same pessimism you hear colloquially. He could be a pessimist and a realist.
