When you put it like that, it doesn't sound so unreasonable. A bunch of what she's reading seems to be formulaic, bottom of the barrel type stuff like YA where you can ascertain what is happening far easier than anything with substance. If you ever open a James Patterson novel, you'll be able to read it in maybe an hour or two because they're basically just stacks of cliches that play out like a movie, so once you figure out the intention of each scene, you could probably effectively "skim" it to ensure it plays out like you think.

If she was reading non-fiction or fiction with depth, or even non-standard elements, I'd call bullshit, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
