If you used it right and you're beinf called a nerd you can easily parody them by calling them dumb.

"Me grug! Me no like hard word! Make brain hurt!!!"

Something like that.

>> No.14169870

Never use a Latin word when a good Anglo-Saxon one will do.

I had this problem in middle school, albeit to a lesser degree. My friends used to complain that they had to think about my jokes and I was terrible at their dumb/crude humor.

I remember one time I said I had a hunger headache while at my friend's house and he was like what the fuck. Really I was just trying to politely tell him that I was hungry and that I wanted to go down to the pantry for some food. Not sure who was the socially dumb one of the two of us in the situation. Probably both of us.

Stop giving bad advice. Latin words are used by people who wish to obfuscate what they're really saying so they can easily detach themselves from their ideas at the first sign of conflict. Academia has created this great lie that it's more virtuous to be an objective observer than to stand behind your own ideas, and they use the thought grinder that is the Latin language to achieve this end. English is a finely crafted prism, where thoughts come in like a beam of light and come out like a clearly defined rainbow. When you speak Latin I automatically assume you're afraid to say what you really believe and I stop listening. Speak English to English speakers or keep it to yourself. Nobody is impressed by passivity but other passive cowards.

Some day they’ll think that somebody they know said a sentence with “ex nihilo” in it, and they’ll try to remember who, but they won’t be able to. When they’re on their deathbeds, they will think of all of their triumphs and regrets, and there will be no room for the time that anon said “ex nihilo.” Time will forgive you of every mistake. Take it easy, fren.

You're better than them and they know it. Bask in the good feeling.

I did a stint in a Wal*Mart during college. One of my co-workers said to another, a construction along the following lines: "[concept x] is like [similar concept y, which does not stand athwart concept x], it's ironic." I was unable to contain myself, and I calmly said "That isn't ironic, it's apropos." She instantly retorted "Okay, joe college!" I felt REALLY good just then.

Same job, another interaction: a manager asked if I wanted to go full time (because I was good). I said I'd like to maintain the status quo. Her: "Status quo? What's that?" This time, I bit my tongue partly out of politeness, but mostly because of the power differential and since I actually wanted to keep the job for a bit: "I'd like to keep things the way they are now, thanks!" Her: "Oh, okay! Got it."
