Andrew George. This is one of the rare cases where there is no need for a discussion regarding the best translation, it is this one. Most others are shit by default because they fill in the gaps or are freer reworkings of previous English translations.
>historical books
and what the fuck is that?

I recently read it, and much of the additional material talked about the constant new discoveries as more tablets are translated, found or pieced together. However the translation dates back to 2002, while there seem to be a new one from 2016 by some other dude. Wouldn't the new one be more complete?

Never mind, I miss read. Apparently it was some new edition of an older text. But the question about if nothing new have been discovered in 17 years still stands.

Can any guy give me a quick rundown on Dante and his works in general. I am going to read his Divine Comedy at some point soon along with his smaller poems and wish to know as much about him as I do the others. His views, his life, his character, his inspiration, etc.

>Can any guy give me a quick rundown on Dante
Giovanni Boccaccio bow to Dante
He's in contact with angels
Rumoured to possess holy abilities
Controlled Florence with an iron fist
Said to have 200+ IQ
Dante were in regular communication with the Archangels Michael and Gabriel, forwarding the word of God to the Pope
Learned fluid Latin in under a week
etc etc etc

That's a legitimate question, and there really has been a discovery last year (or the one before) that I remember distinctly. However, it is of very little importance to the whole, it's just one or two variant verses describing the birds singing while Gilgamesh and Enkidu are entering Humbaba's forest. The biggest and actually important lacunae, such as the one describing how Gil and Enkidu become friends, are still missing.

There should have been a dicks out for Humbaba movement, he did literally nothing wrong.

why does humbaba say that enkidu betrayed him though
the book says hes a nasty dude before they kill him

I guess smaller discoveries, like an additional word, an inferred word being confirmed or even a couple of incomplete sentences being completed would not merit a new translation, or a printing of a new edition.

Not him but I think they knew each other while Enkidu grew up in the wild?
