Where do I start with him? Should I read Freud first? (And if so what by Freud?)

I want to read him to understand D&G better

1. Read some Freud. At least
- The Interpretation of Dreams
- Three Essays on the Theory of Sexuality
- Civilization and Its Discontents

2. Then get a decent grasp on Marx. I have no specific primary text in mind, but you could probably get by by reading a secondary text (anything but Singers introduction).

3. Start with The Mass Psychology of Fascism or Sex-Pol (the Verso edition).

Reading Freud isn't needed for theoretical purposes if you already have a bit of psychological culture. Reich has mostly the same theoretical framework only he's a bit more open to "perversion".
Think of it like this, from impulsions to representations of the unconscious :
Freud>Reich>Jung>Guattari>Lacan

You can just jump right into the function of the orgasm. In that book he gives you his own version of Freud anyway.

After that you can move on to any of his other stuff - his fascism book is interesting. His big book is Character Analysis, which will be accessible after you go through Function of the Orgasm. For commentary you can also see Robinson's book on the Freudian Left. For biographical details see Strick's recent biography: Wilhelm Reich, Biologist

He said he wanted to study D&G and that book and all of his orgone-work has nothing to di with D&G.

OP should look at his early Freudo-Marxism and his analysis of fascism, not his psudo-biology.

>> No.14147262

>>14147194
reich's analysis of fascism is simply a specific historical application of his theory of the orgasm, you absolute buffoon

No it's not. The word orgone does not appear until 1939.

Massenpsychologie des Faschismus is published in 33 and the most recent essay in Sex-pol is published in 34.

totally irrelevant. If you are trying to access a Reich who has none of what you term his "psudo-biology," you will find there is nothing there.
