The 4chan Express has reached /lit/, one of the most educated of all boards. Relax awhile, travelers. Grab a book. We'll set off towards /mu/ in a while.

/co/ here. I'm not crazy enough to think most comic books are very literary, but what do you guys think about Watchmen? Not as good as top-tier literature, but I've always considered it well written.

I think you meant pretentious.

Tao Lin is greatest btw.
Not quite as great as Ayn Rand but it's close.

I fucking dig Watchmen and a ton of other comics too, I grew up reading comics and still love the hell out of them - both the literary ones and the pulp ones. And I think there's a strong case that Watchmen has real literary merit.

In general, there are basically two camps in terms of opinions about comic books on /lit/. The first group thinks that comics are totally awesome, but that you should talk about them on /co/, not /lit/, because they're comics. The second group gets very angry about anything that's not SERIOUS LITERATURE and thus hates comics. Those guys suck.

You assume we're all putting up pretenses, yet you make this assumption based upon how long being here? Your assumption is a pretense, a mockery without knowledge of the subject, a shallow attempt at observant behavior.
You're being pretentious.

/jp/ here, don't get the wrong idea of us, we just like to be secluded.
Only recently we were raided the shit out of due to PUDDI PUDDI (we lost a good janitor because of it). When other boards come over, the usually don't understand /jp/ at first glance, so they troll or post stupid shit, and thus the reason we preemptively tell people to get out.
You're welcome to come visit again, but all that is asked for is to lurk, and don't post until you understand our board culture. Right now is a festive time for us, C79 just finished, and that brings us a lot of new doujin games, music, and porn.
Well with that said, what is /lit/'s favorite book? (I'm sure that debatable, I bet.)

What's interesting is the one book that I've almost never seen a bad response about is The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov, which my trip is a character from.
But I wouldn't call it /lit/'s favorite.

You missed /mu/ and /new/.

>> No.1414509

Personally, after reading it I thought it was less esoteric than it seemed. It's mostly just a cool story with speculation. Some interesting ideas about Christian morality, a lot of satire of Soviet intelligentsia, some weird shit about Satan's place in mythology, and the occasional psychological insight.

>> No.1414517

>>1414509
Oh. I guess I didn't miss much, then. I was expecting it to be some strange composition of symbols within symbols, baroque in its complexity.

>> No.1414526

>>1414517
Maybe so. I don't think so, though. Of course there's allusions and allegory interspersed throughout, like Koroviev/Wotan's Magic Show is a criticism of the tyranny that USSR had become, but it's not on an incredibly high-brow plane.
Just my opinion. Could be dead wrong.
