I'm getting really tired of seeing Hamlet wearing a hoodie and sneakers.

WTF I thought all modern Shakespeare plays were faithful to the original. You have failed me once more, Anglobros.

Regietheater is cancer. I honestly can't stand it.

It might be good for the theater critics who have read/seen the same play fifty times before, but it's really confusing if you're watching it for the first, second or even third time. I hate watching plays.

I only watch opera, because the music can make up for any of the visual flaws, and even then I much prefer traditional stagings by people like Zeffirelli, Ponnelle, Otto Schenk.

By the way, my rejection of regietheater has nothing to do with its supposed subversiveness. I grew up on Pasolini. But even Pasolini respected traditional-looking clothing, architecture and overall visuals when adapting Sophocles, Boccaccio, Chaucer, St. Matthew, besides not adding any superficial, highly personal and extremely flawed "interpretation" to the stories.
