I am fully convinced that this is the greatest book I have ever read

before any shitposters or tripfag trannies:

yeah. Salinger somehow creamed out a cosmic classic. Essential book for any young american male. Only actual plebs will refute

It’s one of the better high school literature essentials but only someone who has read barely anything would think this

I never read it. I've read Dosto, Tolstoy, Melville, Joyce, Nabokov, a good portion of any list of the western cannon. But I've never read The Catcher in the Rye or most any of the high school classics for that matter. I skipped more than every other day of high school to do whatever I felt like, and ultimately decided to not even worry about graduating and took the GED instead of worrying about my formalities in the 12th year. Worked out well.

I dont know whether it's inflicted some jewish pathology on me, or mk ultra bullshit. Was salinger a spook, in the vein of freud, or both?

It's essentially a Vitruvian Man for YA literature and stories aimed at males. As the progenitor, IT is a work of art, but its myriad descendants are merely diagrams to Salinger's instruction, sometimes veering toward a pornographic appeal, and to this end, they cheapen his individual contribution.

Anyway, I keep picturing all these little kids playing some game in this big field of rye and all. Thousands of little kids, and nobody's around – nobody big, I mean – except me. And I'm standing on the edge of some crazy cliff. What I have to do, I have to catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff – I mean if they're running and they don't look where they're going I have to come out from somewhere and catch them. That's all I'd do all day. I'd just be Holden Rapes his Sister, Phoebe and all.

The subtlety of its absolute cosmic epicness is the best part. It is the greatest epic ever written.

That's because it's a masterpiece and Salinger is a genius. Most people don't get it, though, they'll say it's for highschoolers or whatever, because they're only reading at an extremely shallow level, and I don't feel like arguing with them. But be assured, you're not alone.

>> No.14135865

It certainly captures the aimless nihilism of adolescence. Particularly blaming others for how they make you feel, the depression accompanied with lack of self worth, dealing with childhood trauma in self destructive ways, while being intelligent and having nuanced perspectives about the world we inhabit and the hypocritical nature of society.

Re read it the other day and loved it. A very touching book.
