>Gertrude Stein (February 3, 1874 – July 27, 1946) was an American writer and thinker

but why would she actually be credited as a thinker
i mean isnt everybody a thinker

>> No.1412451

>>1412425

A philosopher thinks most deeply about a narrow range of topics.

A thinker thinks less deeply about a wide range of topics.

Writers, especially fiction writers, are more likely to be "thinkers" because they have to develop broad, coherent ideas about the world.

but seriously, go educate yourself. there's no counterargument here for us to disprove, you're just being ignorant.

read up on Gertrude Stein (like, y'know... books, not wikipedia) and see if you feel the same way.

You actually read anything other than the first page of Tender Buttons? Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas for instance is amazing writing. She's possibly one of the most widely influential people of the 20th century, from Hemmingway and every other writer/artist who was in Paris at the time (i.e. fucking everybody) to basically all the american avant garde film-makers and poets like Stan Brakhage. She's about as big an influence on modernism as you can find in a single figure.
