No joke, how do you learn one? I've genuinely tried to learn multiple languages but I think I'm too retarded.
Yes I'm American.

Oh could I raise the darken’d veil,
Which hides my future life from me,
Could unborn ages slowly sail,
Before my view—and could I see
My every action painted there,
To cast one look I would not dare.
There poverty and grief might stand,
And dark Despair’s corroding hand,
Would make me seek the lonely tomb
To slumber in its endless gloom.
Then let me never cast a look,
Within Fate’s fix’d mysterious book.

The Ocean has its silent caves,
Deep, quiet, and alone;
Though there be fury on the waves,
Beneath them there is none.

The awful spirits of the deep
Hold their communion there;
And there are those for whom we weep,
The young, the bright, the fair.

Calmly the wearied seamen rest
Beneath their own blue sea.
The ocean solitudes are blest,
For there is purity.

The earth has guilt, the earth has care,
Unquiet are its graves;
But peaceful sleep is ever there,
Beneath the dark blue waves.

Surely you mean "speak only a single language", right? Presumably everyone here speaks at least one single language. Should everyone who can speak one or more languages leave this board?

lots of studies show that if you don't start learning a second and even third language before you're 12 or so it becomes vastly harder to pick up other languages once you're an adult. Basically the mind locks itself into one language instead of being open to many.

i.e. you're not fucked but anything you try to learn will be hard as fuck

>> No.14115389

>>14115363
thats only because people talk to 12 year olds like fucking babies so its easy to learn

once you are an adult people think you should be more than happy to learn a language starting with the dative, accusitive, perfect past tense, and gender, as if thats in any way a normal way to learn a language, beginning with its internal logic

can you imagine teaching a baby the internal logic of a language as the basis of language aquisition?

i am willing to place a wager that the parents of autists do precisely this
