Who won this one?

>> No.14101894

In terms of the effect of writing - the pure exhaustion of the rehearsal of acts: Sade. In terms of story, minority, and the sovereignty of principal actors: Sacher-Masoch. But why must the two be compared? They are both very singular pornological authors; don't try to form some kind of Sadomasochistic dialectico-identitarian complex out of them!

I haven't read VIF but The 120 Days of Sodom sucks. It's poorly written, dull, and the shock-value doesn't last.

von Sacher Masoch's book has a huge advantage over de Sade's purely from the time in which it was written. To put it simply during the 18th century novels really weren't that good or developed at least to us, and a large reason for that it precisely the amount of development the novel received as a medium in the 19th century, which Venus in Furs being written in 1870, reaps all the benefits of. Both are enormously influential but in terms of all-around cultural influence it's gotta be de Sade

>> No.14102629

reminder that Sade’s other novels are more novelistic on account of the fact Sodom was written secretly in prison and was never completed

120 days is one of the few cases of the movie being better than the book, Salo is one of the best films of all time

They're nothing alike, other than sex (a different kind of sex) playing a central role. Sade's novel explores power and systematic abuse in a grotesque, pornographic, shocking way; it strives not only to express power dynamics through sex, but to break the limits of the abject with every scene, from the careful plannification of the 120 days, to the stories of murder for the sake of an orgasm. Abjection is the word to describe the novel.

Venus in Furs explores power a bit too (through submission), but it is a much more delicate and erotic novel, which strives more for a decadent aesthetic than philosophy. Sexuality is expressed through self degradation and submission; as an aesthetic and sensual cathartic experience.

I don't get masochism sexually. If you get off on that shit youre actually a fag

That being said sadism is based. Choking and pushing down some whore while you fuck her is the most KINO feeling

Indeed. I found the scheme and planning more disturbing than the actual thing. It becomes boring after a while.

Both are absolute trash, as writers and as fetichists.
Laclos is the actually good novelist of sexual decadence. It's also much more interesting in terms of the use of sex. You have to be a basedfag to like masochism and a basic bitch woman to find anything exciting in the other. Chads, Staceys and vom/incels will recognize the genius of Laclos.

I don't know but I just had a story idea.

God seals Sodom off for its sins and the city falls under the influence of Satan and begins to collapse into apocalypse in the absence of God's love. The main character and his faggot lover, drenched in their sins, devolve into more and more explicit and pornographic behaviour as the world around them does so. Eventually they become demons.

It'd be a fapfic for sure.

That’s not sadism dude, the word sadism has been watered down so much by normies. Sadism would be disembowelling a woman while defecating in her mouth.

just read venus in furs. the writing is okay but the dialogs are repetetive, and it's suspiciously similar to masturbatory posts anons write about girls of their dreams.
also, the main characters admits he has a cuck fetish, then cries when he gets cucked. realistic depiction of such men 5/10

Sade is crude and unsofisticated in his crudeness, yet really, really original and determined. personally not a fan of 18th century french porn prose, but i'll be damned if his characters aren't horrendous in a good way. 8/10 for significant historical and cultural impact
