His prose is nice, but the plot points are pretty elementary. More modern authors, especially the Russians, smash him here. He also is btfo by Greek epics such as the Iliad. His stories were designed to be plays though, and tend to be much shorter than modern novels, which partly explains this weakness. His best story is his interpretation of “Julius Caesar” in terms of lines and the cleverness of the speeches.
