>A rough approximation grants about One Hundred BILLION stars per galaxy
>Current science estimates up to 200 billion galaxies inside the observable universe
>The average for planets around a star is >1
>Our sun, an average-sized star, is 330,000 times more massive than the Earth
>The average person may not even explore their entire city of birth
Do you know any literature that reflects on the absurd, borderline comical vastness of this speckled void we call the universe, and our less-than-microscopic relation with it? When I think of images like this one, I shut down a bit. There is one particular NASA image, several gigabytes large, where each pixel of light approximately correlates to a star. It's nearly unfathomable.

Yes. Aniara by Harry Martinson. Olaf Stapledon's Starmaker. John C. Wright's Golden Oeucumene trilogy and Eachaton Cycle.

All incredible sci-fi works. Haven't found anything like 'em since.

yikes. let's unpack this.

you do realize that everything OP said is settled science, don't you? oh boy, i literally can't even with you fucking poltards.

sorry child, but cold hard science doesn't care about your little incel feelings, okay. you do realize it's fucking 2019 and y'all are still listening to memes over ACTUAL SCIENTISTS?

what? do y'all think the earth is flat or something? yes, the world is flat and there's a massive boogie man conspiracy to make you think its round for some fucking reason! or... maybe, just maybe, the FUCKING SCIENTISTS actually know more than you do about FUCKING SCIENCE. oh hey, yeah, maybe that's it! :)

but no, you poltards will continue to delude yourselfs and listen to whatever the next parrot in the echo chamber says. its almost as if you WANT to be retarded.

wow... just wow. this is the world we live in, folks. let that sink in.

this thread is making me lose faith in humanity. *sigh*

The thing is that truly realizing it is basically impossible.
Been interested in astronomy for twenty years, had this moment of clarity two years ago that everything humanity will ever accomplish will mean nothing in the cosmic scale.
Then I had to get back to work.
It can come back, accidentally or if I really focus on it, for a moment.
It would be impossible to live day by day with that understanding. Books?
Adams - The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Stanislaw Lem - Pirx's Tale

people on 4chan are so broken by their feelings of constant persecution that they're unwilling to consider the impenetrably inexplicable nature of existence, or even the bare concept of infinity itself, if those concepts are even by barest association connected with the spooky scary "science" word

OP would have a more receptive audience if he said "nigger" on reddit

The sheer scale of the universe suggests a randomness in the emergence of life rather than some carefully guided process, as well as the immense number of now extinct species. This triggers christcucks more than anything else I've seen.
