Hey lit, I want to buy an E-reader what do you guys recommend?

>> No.1406321

Don't get one, the e-ink gives you cancer.

It applies for only first generations of e-inks.
Kindle 3 considered to be safe

>> No.1406357

only the color E-ink ADAM is worthy

that is notionInk ADAM

>> No.1406366

>>1406357
that's not e ink, e-ink is a brand name first of all, second the one you mention is only an lcd that can work without a backlight, not truly electronic paper.

I have the newest kindle 3G. My fiancee has the 2nd gen one. I love it. It lasts a looong time on battery (as long as you turnh the wireless off).
Also, you can buy books to support the author, or you can pirate books. The $/hour make it worth while IMHO

>> No.1406382

I have the Kindle 3, I like it but I have some problems with it.
The biggest problem is that it doesn't go by page numbers, it uses it's own location number system.
But I also use it for manga by using the hidden/buggy picture function, which is where I find most of the problems with it. It feels like I'm using a prototype for what should be a great device. (it even has a microphone built in that literally has no use)

I love that I don't have to constantly battle the spine while reading anymore though.

Page nos are sort of irrelevant when you can change the number of words on the page.
Manga works, does it? Tried Sandman once; kinda sucks for anything colored, but I never really got into manga.

I got the Aluratek Libre, because it's cheap and simple. I don't need fancy things like wifi, a full keyboard, or a color screen to read books. It's a little small but I got used to it. It comes with a case and ear buds(it can play mp3s) too.

Only complaint that you can't see the end of long file names on the book select screen, so it's hard to differentiate books of the same series or author sometimes. Still, you could just change the file name.

Brand new the Aluratek is only $25 cheaper than the kindle. Why not just spend the extra $25, pirate some books, then call it even? Even used the Aluratek is around $90. Hardly worth it to choose it over the kindle. I could see if the Aluratek was $49.99; but being almost the same price as the kindle it makes no sense to purchase it.

Because the Kindle wouldn't have added anything I feel I need? Personal preference.
The Libre was being sold new for $89 at borders before Christmas.

Yeah there's a program called mangle that formats manga for Kindle, it looks really nice, although occasionally there are some words that get terribly small.
The bugs are minor, but annoying.

doesn't matter

it works just as paper. And the feeling of watching a HD movie on pixelQI "paperscreen" is truly astonishing, it has absolutely zero irritation.

Sweet. Does it handle color, do you know?
Might take this over to /co/, been a few years for me now.
Bonus points for ereaders for not letting everyone know what juvenile crap I'm reading.

>> No.1406477

It converts color into greyscale.
It works so well you would never know if it came from a color image or not.

Color probably won't be worth it, Kindle isn't good for much other than books.

and it won't actuaaly be put into it for a long time, they'll just make the technology and let it sit until it's affordable.
