'Kitchen' by Yoshimoto Banana

Has anyone read it? I feel like it's extremely underrated. It may be too melodramatic for some, but it really moved me.

>> No.1406069

Why does a novel called 'Kitchen' have to have a women on the cover? It's this whole pre-60's sexism that I can't stand.

Her first name apparently is Banana, her family name is Yoshimoto. Japanese always put the family name first.

Her.

And it's a pen name, according to Wikipedia.

A poor man's Murakami, and I'm not just saying that because she's Japanese.

I love banana yoshimoto's books. I think /lit/ is too hard on her. "Goodbye Tsugumi" was my favorite book of hers.

>> No.1407798

this is my 2nd day on /lit/. I absolutely love literature but have to say these are some of the dumbest comments i've ever read online. Wow. Do y'all not know how to read wikipedia?

>> No.1407821

She has a very intriguing atmosphere to her writing style. I liked her short story collection Lizard best.

/lit/ is both racist and sexist, and you posted a non-English and female writer. So, shitstorm is to be expected.

I personally like it alright. In my copy there's another story at the end called Moonlight Shadow that I actually enjoyed more than the main story. I also own Asleep and Goodbye Tsugumi, but I've yet to read those two. I like her style well enough though, I just have to be in that certain mood for it.

It's written by a woman, and it was written after the 60's. The American cover does suck though.
