5th Circle

>In the swampy, stinking waters of the river Styx - the Fifth Circle - the actively wrathful fight each other viciously on the surface of the slime, while the sullen (the passively wrathful) lie beneath the water, withdrawn, "into a black sulkiness which can find no joy in God or man or the universe"

Did you paint that OP? That plus the quote makes for a brilliant opener. Feel proud of yourself.

>broke: the divine comedy isn't very funny!
>woke: the divine comedy isn't that kind of "comedy"
>bespoke: despite not being written as a humorous tale, the divine comedy is filled by gut busting hilarity on every page. How one can read Dante's magnum opus and not give a hearty laugh with each passage is unbenonownst to me.

currently reading the divine comedy and loving it so far, soon done with Inferno.

however, i'm getting tired of reading at such a slow pace and googling every god damn mythological creature, historical figure and personal acquaintance that Dante is namedropping. fucking hell mane, we get you were a true erudite of the early 1300s but fucking stop it. he dares to mention Homer, even though he hasn't read him.

>Although Dante had no direct familiarity with Homer's poetry (it wasn't translated and Dante didn't read Greek), he knew of Homer's unsurpassed achievement from references in works by Latin writers he admired.

I used to think my life was a divine drama, but then I realised it's a horror story.
