he has an almost atheist-christian approach to engaging with the other: through self-negation, agonic self-renunciation for the other (the agony of eros); in a more platonic mode, in the renunciation of the will-to-power in friendship (what is power?). i have no opinion on his interpretations of heidegger, nietzsche, or hegel, but i will say that there's nothing necessarily good about renouncing oneself and being willing to die for the other, and that he interprets or even distorts nietzsche in a catholic vein.
