It is good for those who felt they were underserved by high school or entry level college English courses. I was not and felt the book was largely trivial, but if you had poor instruction then it's a solid method for an autodidact to learn effective academic reading skills. Pair it with one of those literary overview books with essays, poems, short stories, and excerpts and you'll be good to go.
